Crafting activity history
2018-19
- 5/9 ~ Yo-yo project - final squares laid out for quilt!
- Hearts for community (through May 4th, distributed at the Northampton Pride parade)
- Spring school break April 15-19
Pesach/Passover April 19-27, Lailat al Bara'ah 4/20, Christian Easter 4/21 - March Needle felting animals (2 weeks)
- Feb 28 & March 7 ~ Pysanka batik egg decorating
Location: Earth Sciences lab in the North Mod (near Piening Hall, closer to the cow barn)
Thank you alum parent Kristin Hall for providing everything for us to learn! - Feb 14 ~ Making Hearts for community and eating sweet treats! Bring something to share. Materials for making paper valentines will also be available.
- Feb 7 ~ Learning to make "yo-yos for a group-project quilt to auction in September as a fundraiser. Bring cotton fabric if you have extra to spare, sewing needle, scissors. (See Granny Hexagon project from last year.)
- Jan 31 ~ Paper cutting and other items in honor of festivals at this time: Imbolc - Lughassad & Candlemas 2/2, Asian Lunar New Year of the Pig begins 2/5 (see Lunar new year crafts), Valentine's Day 2/14...
- ...Hearts for community ongoing
- Jan 24 ~ Hot water bottle covers (knit one or make from an old sweater, patterns available) and/or Upcycled wool sweater children's pants.
- Jan 17 ~ Planting bulbs in jars in honor of Tu B'Shvat(New Year of the Trees) on 1/20
(Bring narcissus or other bulbs, and sturdy jars or vases; optional glass marbles etc. We have stones to share.) - Jan 10, 2019 ~ Hearts for community (ongoing)

- Nov 29 ~ Straw stars
- Nov 8 & 15 ~ paper window star folding
- All October Thursdays + 10/24 evening ~ small Crafts for the Holiday Fair, EC families especially invited
- Sept 13, 20, 27 ~ Twining small baskets
- Sept 6 ~ intro crochet or help with final touches on our Granny Hexagon blanket
2017-18
- May 3 & 10 ~ Making jump ropes AND blocking out our Granny Hexagon blanket
- April 26 ~ preparing raffia, fabric, and ribbon braids for May Day flower crowns
- April 5 & 12 ~ Granny hexagons
- March 22 & 29 ~ egg gathering baskets
- March 15 ~ batik egg decorating
- March 8 ~ Granny hexagons
- March 1 ~ Masks, hats, and crowns (with hamentaschen)
- Feb 15 ~ We did paper cutting in honor of the Asian Lunar New Year, year of the Dog. See Dragons & Roosters
- Jan 25, Feb 1 & 8 ~ making hearts for the Heartburst project (we also did crochet hearts!)
- 1/11/18 & 1/18/18 ~ Crochet! We learned crochet basics and how to make "granny hexagons" which we will make into a blanket to auction for the school -- if you want to make some, please contact Jennie to get the yarn.
- 12/21 ~ Candle decorating
- 12/14 ~ All kinds of paper and foil stars (bring paper and patterns if you have them)
- 12/7 ~ Shaker Stars ~ Thank you to the school store for sponsoring our reed! This was a record attendance of 16 crafters! (Never underestimate how many clothespins you'll need.)
- 11/30 ~ Mending bee (some mending, some lantern making!)
- November 9, 16 ~ paper window star folding
- Oct 19 ~ special occasion: we joined the Land Stewardship walk on school land, with poetry and painting related to our beautiful landscape
- Sept 28, Oct 5, 12, 26 ~ various personal projects and crafts for the Holiday Fair
- Sept 21 ~ School closed for Rosh Hashanah
On our own, with instructions: Dyeing silks - Sept 14 ~ We began making crafts for the Holiday Fair, learning/preparing for dyeing silks, and working on personal projects already underway.
